Key Scripture:
Isaiah 61:1-3: “The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed
me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to
proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners... to bestow
on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a
garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”
Zechariah 4:6: “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.”
Matthew 20:16: “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
Isaiah 45:13: “I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways; he shall
build My city and let My exiles go free, not for price nor reward, says the Lord of hosts.”
Introduction: Demolition of Society and the Rise of Hope;
In the movie Demolition Man, society is presented as one of extremes—where order is
maintained at the cost of freedom, and everything outside the system has been pushed
underground. In 2024, we see echoes of this scenario: worldwide homelessness, mental
health crises, extreme poverty, and corporate profits that leave the poor further oppressed.
But unlike the dystopian narrative of the movie, Scripture paints a different picture—a
promise of redemption, hope, and a revolution led by the humble.
We are not merely spectators of a world falling apart, but participants in a divine plan to
rebuild. The Tradesmen’s Revolution, inspired by those rising to meet these challenges with
skill, compassion, and dedication, stands as a symbol of this new order. It is a Messianic
vision not based on profits or power but on justice, restoration, and the Spirit of God
moving through the hands of everyday workers.
Part 1: The Broken Systems - Poverty, Mental Health, and Corporate Profit
As the world faces escalating homelessness and mental health struggles, it is easy to feel like
society is on the brink of collapse. Like the controlled world in Demolition Man, our modern
society tends to manage symptoms rather than address the root causes. The poor, the
brokenhearted, and the captive are often overlooked while corporate profits rise to
unprecedented levels.
But Isaiah 61 speaks directly to this situation. The Spirit of the Lord is on those who are
called to bring good news to the poor, to bind up the brokenhearted and set the captives
free. This is not merely a metaphorical liberation but a call to action. It is a reminder that
the Church and all who follow Christ are tasked with fighting for justice, for those trapped in
the cycles of poverty and mental anguish.
Part 2: The Rise of the Messianic Order - New Hope Through the Trades
As corporate profits soar, and inequality continues to rise, we see a new revolution: a
Tradesmen’s Revolution. Throughout history, tradesmen and artisans (démiourgos). Cognate: 1217 dēmiourgós (from 1218 /dḗmos, "a unified group of people" and 2014 /epiphaínō, "work") – properly, someone working on behalf of a group of people (used only in Heb 11:10). See 1218 (dēmos). Have been at the
heart of rebuilding societies. As the world faces demolition—both physically and
morally—the rise of the working class, the tradesmen, and the skilled laborers points to the
re-establishment of a more just order, a new Messianic revolution where those who were
once overlooked rise up to restore balance.
Part 3: The Rebuilding of the City - A New World for the Exiles
Isaiah 45:13 speaks of God raising up someone to build His city and set the captives free, not
for a price or reward. This prophecy speaks to a new kind of leadership—a Messianic figure
who, like Cyrus, will lead the people back to restoration. In the context of the Tradesmen’s
Revolution, this leader is Christ, working through the hands of His people to rebuild the
broken places—both physically and spiritually.
Conclusion: The Tradesmen’s Revolution and the Rise of Hope
In a world that seems to be falling apart, demolished by greed and inequality, God is raising
up a new order. The rise of the Tradesmen’s Revolution, inspired by the Spirit of God,
reflects the heart of Christ's ministry. The call to proclaim good news to the poor is a call for
us all to be part of a revolution that values justice over profits, restoration over exploitation,
and community over individualism.
We are living in a time when the world is desperate for hope, healing, and balance—a new
world order built on the principles of God's Kingdom. It will not come by force but through
the humble, skilled hands of those who are willing to rise and rebuild. Just as Jesus the
Messiah was the ultimate Branch of hope, so too are we branches, called to bear fruit in a
broken world.
Final Prayer
Lord, let us be part of Your revolution. Use our hands, our skills, and our hearts to bring
hope, healing, and restoration to a broken world. May we see Your Kingdom come, where
justice reigns and the last are made first. Amen.
