Breaking Down Walls for Godly Union

“For your love is better than wine, and the fragrance of your oils is like the fragrance of the finest perfumes.” - Song of Songs 1:2-3

Hebrew Word Focus: דָּם (Dawm)

Meaning: Blood, life, and purity.

Reflection: In the Song of Songs, the imagery of love is pure, intimate, and untainted. This purity, represented by the word "dawm," signifies the deep, life-giving connection that God desires in every union.

Reflection: In the story of Jericho, God commanded Joshua and the Israelites to march around the city for seven days, with seven circuits on the seventh day, before the walls came crashing down. These walls symbolized barriers that stood against God's promise, but with obedience, faith, and unity, they fell. In the same way, the barriers in our hearts—built by past hurts, fears, or insecurities—can prevent us from experiencing the fullness of God’s love and unity in marriage.

The Purity of Godly Love: The Song of Songs is often seen as a depiction of the passionate, pure love between a groom and his bride. This love mirrors God’s desire for His people—a love that is without blemish, grounded in "dawm," the purity and life-blood that covers and sanctifies. In the same way, a godly marriage should be built on this foundation of purity, reflecting the love of Christ for His church.

Breaking Down the Walls: Just as the Israelites circled Jericho, there may be walls around our hearts or our relationships that need to come down. These walls may be self-imposed, built from past experiences, doubts, or unmet expectations. But when we bring these to God, He can make them fall.

God wants to bring His Spirit to the center of every marriage, creating a triple-braided cord that cannot be easily broken. In this union, each partner is intertwined with the other, and both are bound together by God, forming a bond of strength, love, and purity.

Prayer: Lord, we come before You, asking that any walls we have built around our hearts or our relationships be brought down. Just as You brought down the walls of Jericho, we pray that You will clear any barriers that keep us from experiencing Your pure, life-giving love. We desire a union that is triple-braided with Your Spirit at the center, reflecting the purity of "dawm." May our love be a testimony of Your faithfulness, and may we walk in unity, guided by Your love and grace. Amen.

Action Step: If you’re in a relationship or marriage, take time to pray together, asking God to reveal and remove any barriers that might be hindering deeper intimacy. If you’re preparing for marriage, consider reflecting on what past experiences or fears might be creating walls, and surrender them to God. Let the purity of "dawm" guide your love, and allow God’s Spirit to weave a bond that is strong, beautiful, and unbreakable.

This devotional emphasizes the significance of purity, obedience, and God’s power in breaking down barriers, ultimately leading to a godly and strong marriage union.
